Well known "Fundamentalist" ministers have made predictions since the 1950's for the date of the rapture, the start of the tribulation, or even the return of Christ. They should not be faulted for their enthusiasm, and sincere desire for Christ's Kingdom. We all want to see peace and tranquility in this troubled world.
But the sad thing is, many of these same individuals have criticized Pastor Russell for "setting dates", or making "predictions" of things which never came to pass. The information provided below will clarify the matter for your mind. The things which Pastor Russell saw in the scriptures and wrote about have come to pass with remarkable accuracy. Does this prove him to be an inspired prophet? By no means! No one has been inspired of God since the days of the apostles. But these things (1) encourage us that God does indeed guide his faithful servants into truth as He promised, (2) that these are the "last days" of this age, and (3) that His long prayed-for kingdom is at hand.
